Hi - I work with an immigration lawyer in the United States and I am trying to research an issue regarding a Bulgarian citizen. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

what is the basis of the problems?

A Bulgarian citizen signed up to serve in the French Foreign Legion and served for a under a year before deserting. Under Bulgarian law, is it considered treason to serve in the military of a foreign country? Thank you very much for your help.

It is not a treason, if Bulgaria is not at war with this country.

There are abstract legal regulation about the TREASON in Bulgarian criminal code.

The basic idea is:
The Treason is If a BULGARIAN CITIZEN DESIGNEDLY INJURED BULGARIAN COUNTRY .
But this is a treason only if he / the bulgarian citizen/ want to do it and he really to do something like that. Anithing else is not a treason.

Yes I could send you this part of Bulgarian criminal code tomorrow evening , but all criminal code is over 200 pages, do you need it?

If you need to use it for an evidence in the court, may be you have to ask Bulgarian embassy for authenticated copy ot it.
